Wingless Hangingfly, Apterobittacus apterus. Member of order Mecoptera (scorpionflies, hangingflies, etc.), family Bittacidae (hangingflies). This is the only wingless Bittacid in the world, and it's endemic to central CA west of the Sierra. Apterobittacus is a predator on smaller arthropods. It's not very commonly seen; this is only my second. Observed in non-serpentine grassland at JR south of Trail F and east of Trails 9 & 10. 23 April 2014.
